Mohammed Al Hosani

Mohammed Al Hosani started his career as a producer in 2014 with an ambitious project to document the history of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the involvement of the Abu Dhabi royal family in growing and promoting the sport. As a result of the research and materials collected during the project, Al Hosani has released multiple short features that have gained significant media interest. The first of which were biographies of “Renzo Gracie” and “Jeff Monson”, under the “Reflections” series aimed at providing the audience with unique and insightful interviews and stories of some of the greatest legends of submission fighting. In 2015, Al Hosani released a short film on “Mark Kerr” - one of the pioneers of UFC – which received a full feature in Sports Illustrated. His most recent short, “Bella” – a story about a blind girl overcoming adversity with the help of jiu-jitsu – has also been covered extensively in the press.

Al Hosani’s love for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) extends well beyond film production. He is heavily involved in promoting the sport within Abu Dhabi and the Middle East more broadly either as an analyst and commentator or through his numerous administrative roles in the sport. Al Hosani started his commentating career in 2009 at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu championship where he worked as an announcer. He was subsequently the official Jiu-Jitsu Commentator/Analyst for Abu Dhabi Sports TV from May 2009 until April 2010.  In 2012, he became the first Arab commentator in the history of UFC when he was assigned Official Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Commentator/Analyst for the OrbitShowtime Network's (OSN) live coverage of UFC 112. After his first experience with MMA commentary with the UFC, he went on to commentate briefly for Abu Dhabi Fighting Championship (ADFC) on Abu Dhabi Sports TV and Dubai Fighting Championship (DFC) on Dubai Sports TV before going on to commentate for the biggest MMA organization in the Arab world, Desert Force, for MBC Action (2012-2014). Outside the media world, Al Hosani has also been instrumental in encouraging and promoting individual sports in general and martial arts in particular across the UAE as the Assistant Secretary General of the Executive Office of the Wrestling, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, and Kickboxing Federation from May 2010 until May 2011. As an active promoter of Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts in the region, Al Hosani has developed a number of websites aimed to promote awareness in the region, including the Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Twitter account and the YouTube channel, Emirates Jiu-Jitsu.

Al Hosani was born in 1984 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. His childhood was spent between the UAE, Tunisia, Japan, Bahrain and the U.S.A. as a result of his father’s diplomatic appointments. His upbringing has cultivated his appreciation for global diversity and a desire to promote the cultural interaction between UAE and the rest of the world, in sport or otherwise.
